At the 1982 National Convention, the convention boy unanimously agreed to adopt Prevent Child Abuse America as Sigma Delta Tau’s National Philanthropy. Prevent Child Abuse America is a voluntary organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse through citizen action.
Each Sigma Delta Tau chapter conducts an annual service project, educational program, or major fund raiser for the benefit of Prevent Child Abuse America. Together, the SDT chapters contribute more than $50,000 each year to their National Philanthropy.
The Chi Chapters holds annual philanthropy events to raise money for the Prevent Child Abuse America organization. Each year our chapter participates in the national SDT fundraiser by selling Mother’s Day cards. In addition, our chapter holds a bake sale on the university’s central campus each April, “Child Abuse Prevention” month, and all the proceeds go to the PCAA organization. This year our chapter started a new fundraising event, in which we sold magazine subscriptions and raised over $5,000 for PCAA.
This year the SDT Chi Chapter teamed up with Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity and University of Michigan’s Hillel in the Go Blue Think Pink campaign. This campaign was designed to increase breast cancer awareness on campus and raise funds for the American Cancer Society and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. 100% of the proceeds from all sales and events will be donated to these organizations. The campaign included selling Go Blue Think Pink t-shirts, pink lemonade stands around campus, a “Dunk the Buckeye” carnival booth in the Diag, and “The Pink Party” which was held at the Necto Night Club. Our participation in the campaign was a great experience for our chapter and we will make the campaign an annual event.
